Kansas State in must-win situation against No. 5 Texas

Feb 25, 2008 - 5:43 PM No. 5 Texas (23-4) at Kansas St (18-8) 9:00 pm EST

MANHATTAN, Kansas (Ticker) -- Fifth-ranked Texas visits Kansas State on Monday in a matchup of two of the top three teams in the Big 12 Conference.

The Longhorns (23-4, 10-2 Big 12) lead Kansas by one game and the Wildcats (18-8, 8-4) by two.

Texas, which has won seven straight, is looking to finish the month of February with a perfect record for the first time since the 1962-63 season. The Longhorns are coming off a 62-45 win over Oklahoma on Saturday.

Sophomore guard D.J. Augustin is averaging 19.1 points and 6.0 rebounds for Texas. Junior guard A.J. Abrams averages 16.7 points for the Longhorns, who trail, 9-7, in the all-time series. Texas has won six of the last nine meetings.

The Wildcats have dropped consecutive road games to Nebraska and Baylor to fall out of first place.

Despite a combined 75 points from freshmen Michael Beasley and Bill Walker, a 92-86 loss to the Bears on Saturday was Kansas State's fourth in a row away from home.

Kansas State is 14-1 overall at home and 6-0 in conference games. Beasley is averaging 26.1 points and 12.5 rebounds.
