Louisville awaits Notre Dame in key Big East game

LOUISVILLE, Kentucky (Ticker) -- Thursday's game between No. 17 Notre Dame and No. 18 Louisville should play a big part in determining the Big East Conference's regular-season champion.

The Cardinals (22-6, 12-3) and Fighting Irish (21-5, 11-3) are two of the top three teams in the conference. Louisville comes into the game having won seven straight games and 13 of its last 15.

The Cardinals are 13-2 at home, including 6-1 in conference games. Junior forward Terrence Williams leads four starters who average in double figures at 11.3 points. Senior center David Padgett is next at 11.2 points followed by sophomore guard Jerry Smith (10.9) and sophomore forward Earl Clark (10.4), who also averages a team-high 8.0 rebounds.

Notre Dame has won eight of its last nine games. Sophomore forward Luke Harangody leads the conference in scoring at 20.2 points per game and is second in rebounding with 10.5 boards per contest. Junior guard Kyle McAlarney averages 15.7 points for the Fighting Irish.

Louisville, which closes out its conference schedule at No. 10 Georgetown, leads the all-time series, 13-8. The Cardinals are 8-1 at home against Notre Dame.
