Stanford aims for third straight win

Feb 28, 2008 - 12:21 PM Washington (15-13) at No. 8 Stanford (22-4) 10:00 pm EST

PALO ALTO, California (Ticker) -- Fresh off containing the conference's most prolific scorer, No. 8 Stanford searches for its third straight win when it hosts Washington in Pac-10 action on Thursday.

The Cardinal (22-4, 11-3 Pac 10) held California's Ryan Anderson - who is averaging a conference-best 21.8 points - to 15 points on just 2-of-13 shooting from the field en route to a 79-69 victory on Sunday.

Anderson's poor shooting contributed to the Golden Bears' 40 percent shooting from the field - just above Stanford's conference-best season average of 38 percent shooting allowed.

Anthony Goods broke a monthlong scoring drought with 20 points, his first double-digit performance since January 19 for Stanford, which remained just one game behind Pac-10 leader UCLA (12-2).

Stanford's defense will need to be at its best again to keep up with Jon Brockman - the conference's sixth-leading scorer and top rebounder with 17.8 points and 11.8 rebounds per game.

Brockman had 21 points and 15 rebounds - his 20th double-double of the season - for Washington (15-13, 6-9) in Saturday's 77-63 setback against Arizona State.
