Mar 13, 2008 - 2:13 PM No. 24 Marquette (23-8) vs. No. 14 Notre Dame (24-6) 9:00 pm EDT

NEW YORK (Ticker) - Luke Harangody and No. 14 Notre Dame look to continue a strong season when they take on No. 24 Marquette in the Big East Conference quarterfinals on Thursday.

Since joining the Big East in 1996, the Irish are just 4-12 in conference tournament play - making the semifinals just twice. Notre Dame made it to the semifinals last season before losing to eventual champion Georgetown.

Picked to finish ninth out of the 16 teams in the preseason poll, Notre Dame's 24 regular season victories were the most since 1973-74.

Harangody was named the Conference Player of the Year, averaging 21.0 points and 10.3 rebounds per game and coach Mike Brey won Coach of the Year honors for Notre Dame.

The Golden Eagles shot just 34 percent (22-of-64), including 3-of-17 from the arc but managed to defeat Seton Hall, 67-54, in the opening round game on Wednesday.

Jerel McNeal scored 21 points to pace Marquette, and leads the team in scoring at 13.8 per contest.

The teams split the two regular season contests, with both winning on their home floor.

The winner will face the either Louisville or Pittsburgh in the semifinals on Friday.
