Curry, Davidson aim to continue dream run vs. Wisconsin

Mar 28, 2008 - 2:09 PM No. 10 Davidson (28-6) at No. 3 Wisconsin (31-4) 7:10 pm EDT

DETROIT (Ticker) - So far, Stephen Curry has been nearly unstoppable.

Curry looks to help No. 10 seed Davidson continue its magical run against third-seeded Wisconsin in the Midwest Regional semifinals of the NCAA Tournament on Friday.

Curry has been the star of the tournament thus far, scoring 55 of his 70 points in the second halves of wins over Gonzaga and No. 2 seed Georgetown. The son of former NBA star Dell Curry, Stephen scored 30 of his 40 points after intermission in a 82-76 first-round win over Gonzaga on Friday.

Davidson (28-6), which has the nation's longest winning streak at 24 straight games, had not won a NCAA Tournament game since 1969 prior to the win over Gonzaga.

The 6-3, 185-pound Curry topped Friday's terrific effort by scoring 25 of his 30 points in the second half of Sunday's 74-70 win over the Hoyas. Despite missing 10 of his first 12 shots, Curry finished with a flurry.

Curry's performance was even more impressive considering Georgetown entered as the nation's top-ranked defensive team, holding opponents to just 36.6 percent from the floor.

That performance should only bolster his confidence when he faces an almost equally stingy Wisconsin defense. The Badgers (31-4) are third in the nation in field goal defense (38 percent), and boast one of the nation's best defenders in senior guard Michael Flowers.

"On film, they look very solid," Curry said. "Very physical, big guys down low. Flowers is quick on the outside. I think he'll be very aggressive (Friday). I think overall defensively, they're just a great team. They compare well to Georgetown, so we've seen a defensive caliber like that. We'll be ready for it."

Wisconsin advanced to the "Sweet 16" with a 72-55 win over No. 11 seed Kansas State on Saturday thanks behind 25 points from Trevon Hughes.

The winner of this game will face either No. 1 seed Kansas or 12th-seeded Villanova in the regional final.
