Nevada looks to continue early success vs. Arkansas-Pine Bluff

Nov 18, 2006 - 6:25 PM Ark Pine Bluff (0-1) at No. 23 Nevada (2-0) 10:05 pm EST

RENO, Nevada (Ticker) -- Marcelus Kemp is not the most heralded player on the floor for Nevada, but Nick Fazekas needs a sidekick.

The 23rd-ranked Wolf Pack will look to build on two strong performances to open the season when they take on Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Saturday.

Kemp scored 29 points, including 15 on five 3-pointers, as Nevada posted a 75-47 victory against Oregon State on Wednesday.

Kemp averaged 15.0 points per game last season, taking some of the pressure off Fazekas, the Wolf Pack's star forward.

A 6-5, 210-pound junior, Kemp made 5-of-6 from the arc against Oregon State after making 5-of-8 in an 85-62 win vs. Alaska-Anchorage on November 10.

A Wooden Award candidate and two-time reigning WAC player of the year, Fazekas added 19 points and tied a career high with 18 rebounds for Nevada, which has won four straight vs. the Beavers.

William Byrd, who is the Golden Lions' top returning scorer, led Arkansas-Pine Bluff with 17 points in an 81-45 loss to Air Force in its season opener. The Golden Lions shot 33 percent from the field and were just 2-of-17 from the arc.

This will be the first meeting between the schools.
