Michigan State looks to return to winning ways at home

EAST LANSING, Michigan (Ticker) -- Michigan State has proven it can win on the road in the Big Ten. On Sunday, the Spartans hope to start a new home winning streak after their last one was stopped thanks to a shocking loss.

No. 9 Michigan State will look to get back in the win column at the Breslin Center when it hosts Penn State.

Off to its best start on the road in Big Ten play since joining the conference in 1950, Michigan State (17-3, 7-1 Big Ten) finds itself atop the conference standings.

The Spartans' 28-game home winning streak was snapped on January 21 in a 70-63 upset loss to Northwestern, the first win by the Wildcats in East Lansing since 1984.

Michigan State has bounced back with a pair of road wins to improve to 5-0 on the road in conference. It followed a 78-67 win over Ohio State last Sunday with a dominating performance at Iowa.

Kalin Lucas tied his career-high with 24 points and Durrell Summers added 21 for the Spartans, who face a red-hot Penn State team.

The Nittany Lions (16-5, 5-3) are off to their best start in conference since the 1995-96 season and have won three straight. They will be in search of their first win in East Lansing in school history, having loss their first 16 attempts.

Penn State's last loss came at the hands of Michigan State, a 78-73 setback on January 14. Jamelle Cornley scored 26 points and Talor Battle had 20, but the rest of the team combined to score 27 points on 9-of-26 shooting from the field.
