Clemson hosts Duke looking to stay in ACC race

Feb 4, 2009 - 11:12 AM No. 3 Duke (19-2) at No. 10 Clemson (18-2), 9:00 p.m. EST

CLEMSON, South Carolina (Ticker) -- With Duke coming to town, Clemson gets another chance to prove it belongs in the upper echelon of the Atlantic Coast Conference.

The 10th-ranked Tigers look to stay in contention when they host third-ranked Duke on Wednesday.

Clemson (18-2, 4-2 ACC), which has already dropped contests to Wake Forest and North Carolina this season, has won back-to-back games, including a thrilling 86-82 triumph at Virginia Tech last Thursday. David Potter made the go-ahead 3-pointer with 1:25 to play.

K.C. Rivers scored 29 points and made seven 3-pointers as Clemson used a 24-3 run to erase a 15-point second-half deficit. Trevor Booker had 21 points and 13 rebounds and leads the team with averages of 14.8 and 9.1.

Duke (19-2, 6-1), which sits alone atop the ACC, rebounded from its first conference loss and crushed Virginia, 79-54, on Sunday. Gerald Henderson scored 18 points to lead the way.

Kyle Singler is averaging a team-best 16.2 points per game, but had a season-low five in the win against the Cavaliers.

The Blue Devils had a 22-game winning streak against the Tigers snapped when they fell, 78-74, in the semifinals of the ACC tournament last season.
