Michigan State takes perfect road mark into Purdue

Feb 17, 2009 - 7:32 PM No. 5 Michigan State (20-4) at No. 21 Purdue (19-6) 7:00 p.m. EST

WEST LAFAYETTE, Indiana (Ticker) -- Michigan State puts its flawless Big Ten road record on the line Tuesday with a visit to No. 21 Purdue.

The fifth-ranked Spartans (20-4, 10-2 Big Ten) are 7-0 in true road games on the season and have won all six away from home thus far in Big Ten play, including a 54-42 victory against in-state rival Michigan a week ago.

Kalin Lucas scored 15 points and Delvon Roe added 14 and 10 rebounds to lead Michigan State, although it was another dominant defensive performance that keyed the win.

In the Spartans last three games, they are allowing just 45.3 points per contest while holding opponents to 31.4 percent shooting from the field and forcing 16.7 turnovers.

The Boilermakers (19-6, 8-4) boast a 12-2 record at Mackey Arena and have won four straight there since dropping their Big Ten opener against Illinois on December 30.

Purdue won ugly in its last contest, escaping Carver-Hawkeye Arena with a 49-45 win over Iowa on Saturday. The Boilermakers were just 3-of-16 from 3-point range but held the Hawkeyes to 2-of-19 from beyond the arc.

E'Twaun Moore collected 16 points and 10 rebounds as Purdue saw the return of preseason conference player of the year Robbie Hummel. The sophomore was 1-of-7 from the field for two points in 24 minutes off the bench after missing three straight games with a hairline fracture in his lower back.

Purdue and Michigan State meet again in the season finale for both teams on March 8 in a game that could decide the Big Ten regular-season champion.
