Big Ten leader Michigan State host streaking Wisconsin

Feb 22, 2009 - 2:00 PM Wisconsin (17-9) at No. 5 Michigan State (20-5), 3:00 p.m. EST

EAST LANSING, Michigan (Ticker) -- If Michigan State hopes to remain atop the Big Ten Conference standings, it will have to defeat the league's hottest team.

The fifth-ranked Spartans hope to bounce back from a loss when they host Wisconsin on Sunday.

Michigan State (20-5, 10-3 Big Ten) is coming off a resounding 72-54 setback at Purdue on Tuesday, cutting its lead in the conference to just one-half game over the Boilermakers (10-4).

Kalin Lucas scored 14 points and Durrell Summers added 11 in the loss for Michigan State, which was the Spartans' first in seven conference road games this season.

After suffering through a six-game losing streak, Wisconsin (17-9, 8-6) has rebounded with five straight wins to get back into the NCAA Tournament picture.

Trevon Hughes scored 21 points as the Badgers blew out Indiana, 68-51, on Thursday. Wisconsin only had five turnovers in the win.

Marcus Landry is averaging 12.8 points to lead the Badgers, who are 2-6 against ranked teams this season.

It is the only meeting between the teams this season. Wisconsin won both meetings last season.
