Griffin, Oklahoma still aiming for Big 12 title

Mar 4, 2009 - 12:05 PM No. 5 Oklahoma (26-3) at No. 12 Missouri (24-5) 9:00 p.m. EST

COLUMBIA, Missouri (Ticker) -- With Blake Griffin back in tow, Oklahoma hasn't given up hope for the Big 12 regular-season title.

Griffin and the fifth-ranked Sooners look to remain in contention on Wednesday when they visit No. 12 Missouri.

The leading candidate for Player of the Year honors, Griffin suffered a concussion in the first half against Texas on February 21 and Oklahoma struggled without its leading scorer.

The Sooners (26-3, 12-2 Big 12) suffered a five-point loss to Texas before dropping two games in a row for the first time this season after enduring an 87-78 setback to then-No. 15 Kansas on February 23.

The back-to-back losses dropped Oklahoma from the top spot in the conference, but it stayed one game behind Kansas (24-5, 13-1) with a 78-63 victory over Texas Tech on Saturday.

Griffin had 20 points and 19 rebounds in his return to the lineup, appearing back to full health as he shot 9-of-18 from the field and grabbed five offensive boards.

The Tigers (24-5, 11-3) will need help to clinch a share of the Big 12 regular-season title after dropping a 90-65 decision to the Jayhawks on Sunday.

Kansas can close out both teams' hopes with a victory against Texas Tech.
