Xavier gunning for share of third straight A-10 title
Mar 5, 2009 - 11:11 AM Dayton (24-5) at No. 18 Xavier (23-5) 9:00 p.m. ESTCINCINNATI (Ticker) -- Retribution isn't the only thing Xavier will be playing for when it hosts Dayton on Thursday.
The 18th-ranked Musketeers (23-5, 11-3 A-10) sit atop the Atlantic 10 Conference, a half-game in in front of Rhode Island (22-8, 11-4) and one game ahead of the Flyers (24-5, 10-4).
A win would give Xavier at least a share of its third straight league crown with its final regular-season contest coming on Saturday at Richmond.
Xavier opened conference play with 10 straight wins before dropping three of its next four, including a 71-58 loss in the first meeting with Dayton on February 11.
The Flyers led the entire game, snapping a six-game losing streak to Xavier, which shot only 42 percent from the field.
However, Dayton has had no success on the road against the Musketeers, who have won 23 straight home meetings with the Flyers dating back to 1981.
