UCLA still hoping for Pac-10 crown

Mar 5, 2009 - 11:12 AM Oregon State (13-14) at No. 17 UCLA (22-7) 10:30 p.m. EST

LOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- With two games remaining, UCLA needs some help to defend its Pac-10 regular-season title.

The 17th-ranked Bruins should keep their slim championship hopes alive on Thursday when they host lowly Oregon State.

UCLA (22-7, 11-5 Pac-10) is second in the conference standings, 1 1/2 games behind No. 13 Washington (23-7, 13-4), which can clinch the outright crown on Saturday with a win against cross-state rival Washington State.

The Bruins will need a loss by the Huskies and wins over Oregon State and Oregon on Saturday to retain their regular-season title.

UCLA is coming off back-to-back wins, closing its road schedule with victories over Stanford and California.

The Beavers (13-14, 7-9) conclude their regular season with a three-game road trip, which started with a 79-69 loss to arch-rival Oregon on Sunday.

Calvin Haynes scored 16 points to lead the Beavers, who held a 45-32 advantage with 16:17 left to play before allowing Oregon to go on a 24-3 run and rally for victory.
