Virginia Tech hoping to keep slim NCAA Tournament hopes alive

Mar 8, 2009 - 2:07 PM Virginia Tech (17-12) at No. 24 Florida State (22-8), 2:00 p.m. EDT

TALLAHASSEE, Florida (Ticker) -- Virginia Tech looks to bolster its tenuous NCAA Tournament resume when it visits No. 24 Florida State on Sunday.

The Hokies (17-12, 7-8) have dropped five of their past six games, including Wednesday's 86-78 setback to North Carolina, to fall on the wrong side of the proverbial "bubble."

A.D. Vassallo is averaging 18.9 points per game and Malcolm Delaney is scoring 18.4 per contest to lead Virginia Tech, which is 2-5 against the Top-25 this season.

Meanwhile, Florida State (22-8, 9-6) is in good shape to make its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 1998.

Toney Douglas is averaging 20.8 points per game to lead the Seminoles, who are coming off an 84-81 setback to Duke on Tuesday.

Florida State is tied with Clemson (9-6) for fourth place in the Atlantic Coast Conference, one game behind Wake Forest (10-5). The top four teams receive a bye in next week's ACC tournament.
