Missouri kicks off Big 12 tourney vs. Texas Tech

Mar 12, 2009 - 12:36 PM Texas Tech (15-18) vs. No. 15 Missouri (25-6) 9:30 p.m. EDT

OKLAHOMA CITY (Ticker) -- Missouri is looking for its first conference tournament title in 17 years. However, the way it ended the regular season isn't a particularly good omen.

The 15th-ranked Tigers kick off their Big 12 tournament slate on Thursday night as they take on Texas Tech, which played its way into the game with a Wednesday night victory over in-state rival Texas A&M.

The Tigers, the No. 3 seed in the tourney, haven't won a conference tournament crown since 1993 and have lost in the first round three years running. They will look to bring that streak to an end despite having dropped two of their last three to close the regular season.

Texas Tech, the No. 11 seed, has endured a more difficult season but pulled out an 88-83 victory over the Aggies on Wednesday night behind Mike Singletary's 43-point outburst - including 29 straight at one point.

Singletary was held to just 14 points in the Red Raiders' last meeting with Missouri, a 97-86 victory for the Tigers.

Missouri is led by senior forward DeMarre Carroll, who is averaging 17.1 points on 57 percent shooting this season.
