Couisnard's perfect shooting leads to Wichita St. rout

Dec 17, 2006 - 10:26 PM WICHITA, Kansas (Ticker) -- P.J. Couisnard and Wichita State treated a lesser opponent the way one of the nation's elite teams would.

Couisnard scored 21 points and Karon Bradley added 14 as the No. 10 Shockers demolished Maryland-Eastern Shore with a 102-46 victory in the Las Vegas Holiday Classic.

One of the top surprises in college basketball, Wichita State (8-0) continued its outstanding play that has led to an unprecedented climb up the national rankings. Including in its undefeated start were road victories over ranked squads Louisiana State and Syracuse.

The Shockers - playing for the first time in eight days - showed absolutely no letdown, making five of their first eight shots en route to a 14-4 start. They opened up the lead to 50-22 at the half.

Couisnard, who finished a perfect 8-of-8 from the field, was the main contributor, scoring 14 points in the opening half. Kyle Wilson added 10 of his 12 points before intermission.

The break did not interrupt Wichita State's rhythm, as it finished 65 percent (39-of-60) from the field en route to going over the 90-point plateau for the first time this season.

Phillip Thomasson scored 11 points and Sean Ogirri and Wendell Preadom added 10 each for the Shockers, who shot 7-of-15 (47 percent) on 3-pointers and held a 43-28 advantage in rebounding.

Antonio McMillion had 16 points and 10 rebounds for Eastern-Maryland Shore (1-6), which shot 28 percent (15-of-53).
