Dec 31, 2009 - 8:09 PM PITTSBURGH (AP) -- Shayla Scott scored a career-high 18 points and No. 20 Pittsburgh got out to a 20-3 lead before holding off a late charge for a 57-47 win over Mount St. Mary's on Thursday.

The Panthers (11-2) won their final non-conference game before their Big East opener Saturday. They had lost two of their previous four.

Pitt scored the game's first 13 points before the Mountaineers (4-7) scored 6:43 into the game. The Panthers led 28-12 at halftime.

Freshman Cassie Cooke had 24 points in her second game for Mount St. Mary's, which has lost four of five. The Mountaineers shot 24.6 percent from the field, including going 3 for 24 in the first half.

The Mountaineers had a 20-8 run during the second half, but got no closer than eight points.
