No. 5 Tennessee pulls away from South Carolina

Jan 21, 2011 - 3:12 AM Columbia, SC (Sports Network) - Shekinna Stricklen netted 18 points and grabbed 16 rebounds in No. 5 Tennessee's 71-56 victory over South Carolina.

Meighan Simmons had 16 points and Kelley Cain finished with 11 points and 11 boards for the Lady Volunteers (18-2, 6-0 SEC), who have won nine straight since their December 14 loss to Baylor.

Ieasia Walker led all scorers with 24 points and corralled eight rebounds for South Carolina (10-9, 2-4), which has lost four of its last six games. La'Keisha Sutton chipped in 11 points in the loss.

The game was closely matched in the first half and Tennessee held onto a 33-26 lead at the break.

But the Lady Vols took advantage of a poor three-point shooting performance by South Carolina, which made just 2-of-15 shots from beyond the arc in the second half. Tennessee shot 50 percent from the field in the final half as they pulled away late in the game.
