Humphrey lifts Georgia past Iowa

Mar 24, 2008 - 1:29 AM NORFOLK, Virginia (Ticker) -- Angel Robinson scored 17 points and Tasha Humphrey hit a crucial shot in the closing minute to lead eighth-seeded Georgia to a 67-61 victory over No. 9 Iowa in a first-round matchup in the New Orleans Regional on Sunday.

Robinson added 11 rebounds for Georgia (23-9), which outrebounded Iowa, 43-32, and had a 22-5 edge in second-chance points.

Ashley Houts and Megan Darrah each scored 13 points and Humphrey added 12 and 11 rebounds for the Bulldogs. Humphrey put Georgia ahead to stay with a jumper with 58 seconds to play and Houts kept them in front by making eight free throws in the final 41 seconds.

Kristi Smith scored 17 points for Iowa (21-11), which is winless in the NCAA Tournament since 2002.

The Bulldogs play for their sixth consecutive trip to the regional semifinals against top-seeded North Carolina on Tuesday. The Tar Heels crushed 16th-seeded Bucknell, 85-50, earlier Sunday.
