McCoughtry helps Louisville continue unbeaten start
Dec 21, 2006 - 10:40 PM GAINESVILLE, Florida (Ticker) -- Angel McCoughtry emphasized Louisville's advantage inside.McCoughtry scored 27 points and grabbed 14 rebounds as the No. 14 Cardinals continued their undefeated start with a 77-60 victory over Florida.
Jazz Covington scored 23 points and added nine boards for Louisville (13-0), which held a 42-30 edge in points in the paint and 19-7 advantage in second-chance points.
McCoughtry shot 12-of-21 from the field and pulled down eight offensive rebounds.
Shooting 50 percent (18-of-36) from the floor in the first half, the Cardinals grabbed a 39-25 lead at the break. They extended that advantage to 20 points within the opening 3 1/2 minutes of the second half.
The Gators, who were paced by 16 points from Sha Brooks, managed to trim that deficit to 51-40 with 13:43 remaining before seeing their 16-game home winning streak against non-conference foes snapped.
Marshae Dotson scored 14 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for Florida, which shot 35 percent (24-of-69) and committed 15 turnovers.
