George Washington holds off Richmond
Jan 10, 2007 - 3:02 AM WASHINGTON (Ticker) -- George Washington played like it was coming off an 11-day layoff.Whitney Allen and Kenan Cole scored 14 points apiece to lead the 14th-ranked Colonials to a 57-50 victory over Richmond in the Atlantic 10 Conference opener for both teams.
George Washington (12-2, 1-0 A-10) is seeking its sixth straight regular-season league title, but struggled against Richmond (6-11, 0-1), committing 27 turnovers.
Jazmine Adair added 11 points and 10 rebounds for the Colonials, who dominated the backboards, 39-27, in moving within two wins of matching the best start in school history, set in 1999-2000.
Christina Campion scored 22 points, including three 3-pointers, for the Spiders, who committed 23 turnovers of their own and trailed, 27-19, at halftime.
Richmond hit 6-of-12 3-pointers in the second half to stay close.
