Waner, Bales keep Duke undefeated

Jan 30, 2007 - 3:21 AM DURHAM, North Carolina (Ticker) -- Abby Waner and Alison Bales helped Duke overcome a sluggish start and remain perfect.

Waner scored 18 points and Bales added a double-double as No. 1 Duke posted a 75-65 victory over Virginia Tech in an Atlantic Coast Conference matchup.

Duke (22-0, 7-0 ACC) had played three straight road games but came out flat in its return to Cameron Indoor Stadium and trailed, 26-15, with 8:10 left in the first half.

Waner started a 20-3 run with a jumper and had nine points in the burst as the Blue Devils took the lead for good. Waner capped the spurt with a layup with 2:26 left in the half to make it 35-29 and Duke never trailed again.

Waner added six rebounds and five steals, Bales had 17 points and 11 rebounds and Lindsey Harding finished with 15 points for Duke.

Britney Anderson scored 19 points and Brittany Cook added 18 for Virginia Tech (14-9, 4-4).
