Jones helps No. 14 Georgia rout Alabama State
Nov 26, 2009 - 2:01 AM ATHENS, Ga.(AP) -- As a 5-foot-9 guard, freshman Jasmine James is not counted on to be a huge rebounder. She added that to her repertoire in No. 14 Georgia's 75-48 win over Alabama State on Wednesday night. James scored 17 points and grabbed a team-high six rebounds, adding five assists against no turnovers in an efficient 32 minutes.
"She had six turnovers Sunday," said Georgia coach Andy Landers of her effort against Rutgers. "She had none today. She had a nice line in the box score."
All nine players who dressed for Georgia (4-0) played and scored, including 13 apiece by Ashley Houts and Anne Marie Armstrong and 11 by Porsha Phillips.
Tanika Jackson scored 10 for Alabama State (1-3).
Georgia was missing its leading rebounder, 6-foot-5 starting center Angel Robinson, who suffered a neck injury in Georgia's win over Rutgers Sunday. Robinson traveled with the team after the game to a tournament in Hattiesburg, Miss., but she remains doubtful.
Two other players were not with the team Wednesday. Transfer guard Angie Criner of Tulsa, Okla., has quit the team. Freshman forward Tamika Willis is expected to join the team in a few weeks. She recently had a baby.
The Lady Dogs jumped out to a 15-2 lead in the first four minutes. Alabama State closed to within six at 19-13 with 8:32 to play after Nikel White hit a free throw. But Georgia outscored the Lady Hornets 18-6 the rest of the half.
