Parker, Tennessee use big start to roll over South Carolina

Feb 2, 2007 - 3:44 AM KNOXVILLE, Tennessee (Ticker) -- A big start led to a huge win for Candace Parker and Tennessee.

Parker scored 13 points and grabbed 12 rebounds as the third-ranked Lady Vols rolled to a 72-36 rout of South Carolina in a Southeastern Conference mismatch.

Scoring the opening 16 points of the contest, Tennessee (20-2, 7-0 SEC) rolled to a 37-11 advantage at the half and its third straight win since a disappointing loss to No. 1 Duke on January 22.

The Lady Vols held an opponent under 45 points for the fifth time this season.

Parker made up for a 2-of-8 effort from the field by converting 8-of-10 free throws. She also pulled down three of her team's 15 offensive boards and collected two steals.

Shannon Bobbitt scored 13 points and Alberta Auguste added 10 and five steals for the Lady Vols, who converted a season-high 34 turnovers by the Gamecocks into 31 points.

Ilona Burgrova had eight points and eight rebounds for South Carolina (13-10, 3-5), which finished 34.9 percent (15-of-43) from the field, including 0-of-7 on 3-pointers.
