Wright leads No. 25 Virginia over Virginia Tech

Jan 19, 2010 - 12:14 AM BLACKSBURG, Va.(AP) -- Monica Wright scored 27 points to lead No. 25 Virginia to a 70-56 victory over Virginia Tech on Monday.

Wright had 17 points in the second half for the Cavaliers (12-5, 1-2 Atlantic Coast Conference), who snapped a two-game losing streak by beating the Hokies for the seventh straight time. The senior scored seven points in a 17-6 run early in the second half that gave Virginia the lead for good.

The Hokies (11-6, 1-2) had taken a 27-25 lead on a basket by Utahya Drye with 18:19 remaining. The Cavaliers scored on their next eight possessions to take a 42-33 lead with 13:12 remaining.

Wright finished 11 of 17 from the field, including making both of her 3-point attempts, and the Cavaliers shot 49.2 percent (29 of 59) overall.

Drye finished with 18 points and eight rebounds for the Hokies, who shot 36.5 percent (23 of 63).
