Duke claims record league win with rout of Boston College

Feb 16, 2007 - 3:14 AM DURHAM, North Carolina (Ticker) -- Wanisha Smith helped Duke add another milestone to its remarkable season.

Smith scored 13 points and freshman Bridgette Mitchell added a season-high 20 off the bench as the top-ranked Blue Devils recorded a 73-52 rout of Boston College in an Atlantic Coast Conference matchup.

Carrem Gay added 10 points for Duke (27-0, 12-0 ACC), which recorded 12 league wins for 10th consecutive season, an ACC record.

Smith finished 5-of-7 from the field with two 3-pointers and Mitchell grabbed 10 rebounds for the Blue Devils, who shot 57 percent (21-of-37) in taking a 46-27 lead into intermission.

While Duke used its stellar shooting to open up a big lead, its defense held Boston College to 32 percent (19-of-60) en route to limiting their fourth consecutive foe under 54 points.

Kathrin Ress scored 16 points and Mickel Picco 12 for the Eagles (12-13, 2-9), who also committed 20 turnovers.

Duke now will face defending champion Maryland on Sunday in the first of consecutive games that will help decide the league's regular-season title. The Blue Devils will close out conference play against No. 2 North Carolina on February 25.
