Ajavon, Rutgers walk over Providence
Feb 21, 2007 - 5:08 AM PISCATAWAY, New Jersey (Ticker) -- Matee Ajavon scored 23 points and grabbed six rebounds as No. 23 Rutgers beat up on Big East Conference rival Providence in a 69-34 victory.Epiphanny Prince had 14 points and Heather Zurich added 10 as Rutgers (18-7, 11-3 Big East) maintained second place in the conference behind Connecticut.
Ajavon made 8-of-11 shots, including 3-of-3 from the arc as the Scarlet Knights controlled from the start, scoring eight of the game's first 10 points and building the lead to as many as 21.
Chelsea Marandola scored 14 points for Providence (13-14, 3-11), which shot 31 percent (15-of-49) from the field and has lost five of its last six games.
