Nainima leads South Carolina to upset of Georgia
Feb 7, 2010 - 9:09 PM ATHENS, Ga.(AP) -- Valerie Nainima scored 21 points to lead South Carolina to a 52-42 win over No. 14 Georgia on Sunday.Nainima hit three 3-pointers for South Carolina (13-10, 6-5 SEC).
Freshman Jasmine James scored 11 for Georgia (19-5, 6-5 Southeastern Conference), which played most of the game without two seniors. Center Angel Robinson hit her head on the knee of a South Carolina player while diving for a ball in the first half and left the game dizzy. She did not return.
Point guard Ashley Houts drew her fourth foul five minutes into the second half and did not play the rest of the game.
Georgia closed the gap to 42-37 with 6:25 to play with a little 6-0 run, but the Gamecocks answered with consecutive 3-point possessions. Nainima hit a 3-pointer and Jewel May had a three-point play.
