Marquette rallies to overtake South Florida
Feb 25, 2007 - 6:15 AM MILWAUKEE (Ticker) -- Marquette used its defense to achieve a milestone.Christina Quaye scored 26 points as the 19th-ranked Golden Eagles rallied from a 10-point halftime deficit to post a 75-63 Big East Conference victory over South Florida.
Marquette (23-5, 11-4 Big East) set a school record for wins in a season, but it didn't come easy.
South Florida led by 15 points before the Golden Eagles scored the final five of the first half to go to the break trailing, 40-30.
But after the teams traded baskets, Marquette went on a 21-3 spurt, holding South Florida (18-10, 8-7) to just one field goal in nearly 11 minutes to take a 53-45 lead with 8:49 to play.
Krystal Ellis added 21 points and Efueko Osagie-Landry had 12 and 10 rebounds for the Golden Eagles.
Shantia Grace scored 23 points for the Bulls, who shot 21 percent (7-of-34) in the second half.
