Williams to be La Salle women's basketball coach

Mar 24, 2010 - 12:10 AM PHILADELPHIA(AP) -- La Salle University has hired former Pittsburgh associate coach Jeff Williams as the school's new head women's basketball coach.

Williams, who spent the past seven seasons at Pitt and the past four as associate head coach, helped the Panthers to postseason appearaces in the past five seasons, including three straight trips to the NCAA tournament. He also worked at Howard and Georgia Tech in his 20-year career.

La Salle announced earlier this month that Tom Lochner would not return next season.

The Explorers (7-22, 2-12 Atlantic 10) finished the season with a 62-46 loss to Dayton on Feb. 27. Lochner was 71-102 in six seasons as head coach.
