Beck leads George Washington into the round of 16
Mar 20, 2007 - 3:10 AM LOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- Kimberly Beck and some tenacious defense helped fifth-seeded George Washington secure a likely date with top-seeded North Carolina.Beck scored 11 of her 18 points in the second half and added four assists as the Colonials stopped No. 4 Texas A&M, 59-47, in the second round of the Dallas Region.
Sarah-Jo Lawrence scored eight of her 12 points after intermission and Jessica Adair added 10 points and a couple of blocks for George Washington (28-3), which will face the winner of Tuesday's North Carolina-Notre Dame contest on Sunday.
The Colonials held the Aggies (25-7) to 33 percent (19-of-58) and forced 19 turnovers.
George Washington led, 23-21, at the half and consecutive layups by Adair and Beck increased the edge to 48-41 with 5 1/2 minutes left. Beck's 3-pointer with 1:41 left pushed the advantage to 57-45.
Takia Starks scored 16 points for Texas A&M.
