Miami edges NC State in ACC quarters

Mar 5, 2011 - 3:38 AM Greensboro, NC (Sports Network) - Shenise Johnson had 25 points and 13 rebounds as No. 10 Miami-Florida slipped past North Carolina State in the ACC Tournament quarterfinals.

Riquna Williams had 22 points, five rebounds and six assists, while Morgan Stroman added 16 points and five boards for the Hurricanes (27-3), who will face North Carolina in the semifinal round on Saturday.

Bonae Holston had 25 points and 11 rebounds, while Amber White added 18 points and six assists for the Wolfpack (14-17), who were coming off an overtime win against Boston College on Thursday in the opening round.

The Hurricanes opened the game with a 15-2 run and carried a 46-34 lead into halftime. But the Wolfpack clawed back and got within three, 56-53, when Brittany Strachan completed a three-point play.

North Carolina State tied the game several minutes later and kept it close heading down the stretch. But Miami got a jumper from Williams and three free throws from Stroman to build an 83-77 lead with under three minutes left.

The Wolfpack didn't get closer than four the rest of the way, as the Hurricanes won an ACC Tournament game for the first time since March 4, 2005.
