Memphis' McFerrin receives contract extension
Jun 21, 2011 - 10:31 PM Memphis, TN (Sports Network) - After leading the University of Memphis women's basketball team to back-to-back 20-win seasons, head coach Melissa McFerrin has been rewarded with a one-year contract extension, through the 2015-16 campaign."Over the past three years, coach McFerrin has elevated the women's basketball program to a contender for league championships and we know that the future is very bright for our women's program," Memphis athletics director R.C. Johnson said.
McFerrin is entering her fourth season at Memphis. Under her watch, the Tigers have put together back-to-back postseason berths, advancing to the finals of the Women's Basketball Invitational in 2010 and receiving an at-large bid to the Women's National Invitational Tournament last season.
Since McFerrin became the head coach before the start of the 2008-09 season, Memphis has posted a 53-45 record.
