Oakland upsets No. 22 Florida State

Dec 3, 2007 - 12:57 AM ROCHESTER, Michigan (Ticker) -- Sophomore Hanna Reising scored 23 points and junior Jessica Pike had 20 as Oakland defeated No. 22 Florida State, 85-75, on Sunday.

It was the Golden Grizzlies' first victory over a ranked opponent since the 2001-02 season.

Oakland (4-2) took the lead on a 3-pointer from Reising with 16:17 left in the first half and never trailed again, increasing its lead to 48-31 at the half. The Golden Grizzlies shot 63.3 percent (19-of-30) from the floor in the opening 20 minutes.

The Seminoles (6-2) cut a 19-point deficit in the second half to four points with 5:05 remaining, but were unable to complete the comeback.

With Oakland leading, 79-75, with 1:38 remaining, Charlese Greer converted the first half of a 1-and-1. Greer missed the second shot, but Melissa Jeltema grabbed the offensive rebound and Pike converted a layup to give the Golden Grizzlies a seven-point lead.

Oakland held Florida State scoreless over the final 2:34. Jeltema scored 16 points and Greer 13 for the Golden Grizzlies.

Tanae Davis-Cain scored 16 points for the Seminoles. Jacinta Monroe and Mara Freshour each scored 14 points and Britany Miller chipped in 11 for Florida State.
