Lacy, Hughes lead UTEP past Southern Miss
Mar 9, 2008 - 6:05 AM ORLANDO, Florida (Ticker) -- Natasha Lacy had 25 points, eight rebounds and five assists as No. 24 Texas-El Paso posted an 86-69 victory in the Conference USA tournament semifinals on Saturday.Jareica Hughes had 21 points, six rebounds and eight assists and Izabela Piekarska scored 14 for the Miners (27-2), who will take on second-seeded SMU in the conference championship game on Sunday. It is UTEP's first berth in the title game.
It is the 23rd straight win for UTEP, the longest active streak in the country.
Lacy, who connected on 11-of-16 shots from the floor, helped the Miners take a 42-29 advantage at the break. Hughes was 7-of-11 from the field for UTEP, which shot 55 percent (33-of-60).
Pauline Love scored 15 points and Amber Eugene had 14 for the Lady Eagles (19-13), who shot 48 percent (27-of-56) but saw their three-game winning streak end.
