Late burst lifts George Washington over Arizona
Nov 18, 2006 - 1:43 AM COLLEGE PARK, Maryland (Ticker) -- Jessica Adair made up for her late start.Adair scored 13 of her career-high 22 points in the second half as No. 25 George Washington rallied for a 69-65 victory over Arizona in the opening game of the BTI Classic.
Missing the Colonials' first two games of the season, Adair shot 4-of-6 from the field and sank 5-of-6 free throws after the break as George Washington made up a six-point deficit within the final three minutes.
After Jessica Arnold's layup gave the Wildcats a 60-54 edge with 2:47 to play, Adair hit a layup in the lane, Kenan Cole completed a three-point play and Sarah-Jo Lawrence converted two free throws and hit a jumper to make it 63-62 with 53 seconds left.
Adair and Kimberly Beck both sank two free throws and Whitney Allen and Lawrence both split a pair within the final 32 seconds as the Colonials (3-0) ended the contest with a 14-5 spurt.
Lawrence scored 17 points and Cole added 16 and 11 rebounds for George Washington, which shot 56 percent (15-of-27) in the second half.
Ashley Whisonant scored 20 points and Joy Hollingsworth had 15 for Arizona (1-1), which finished 40 percent (23-of-58) from the field.
