Missouri upsets No.16 Texas A&M in OT

Oct 30, 2011 - 3:02 AM College Station, TX (Sports Network) - Marcus Lucas' 11-yard touchdown reception in overtime was the deciding score as Missouri rallied to post a 38-31 victory over No. 16 Texas A&M in a Big 12 clash from Kyle Field.

James Franklin threw for 198 yards and two scores and added 97 yards and a pair of TDs on the ground for the Tigers (4-4, 2-3 Big 12), who trailed by 14 points in the second quarter.

Henry Josey rushed for 162 yards and a score on 20 attempts, and Eric Waters contributed a 42-yard TD reception for the victors.

"We felt comfortable with running the ball. It's something we stuck with and it worked out," Franklin said.

Ryan Tannehill passed for 317 yards and three touchdowns, also recording a rushing score for the Aggies (5-3, 3-2), whose three-game win streak came to an end.

Christine Michael gained 104 yards on 21 carries and Ryan Swope struck for 66 yards and a touchdown reception on eight catches.

Lucas capped Missouri's first possession of OT with a leaping catch in the back of the end zone, and the Tigers went on top, 38-31.

Texas A&M had trouble moving the ball on its drive. Swope was stopped for a loss of three yards on 3rd-and-2, then on 4th-and-5 from the 20, Tannehill had his pass tipped and it fell incomplete to end the game.

"We had opportunities to win the football game, but we didn't take advantage of those opportunities," Texas A&M head coach Mike Sherman said. "I thought it was a tough and hard-fought ballgame on both sides of the ball."

Franklin called his own number and rolled 20 yards to the end zone to open the scoring, but the Aggies countered on the following series when Tannehill hit Michael Lamothe for a two-yard score.

Waters hauled in a 42-yard pass from Franklin and the visitors led 14-7 after one, but Tannehill hit Cyrus Gray for a 12-yard TD early in the second for a 14-all deadlock.

Swope's six-yard TD reception to put Texas A&M ahead by a score was followed by a three-and-out from Missouri. The Aggies then went up 28-14 after Tannehill's three-yard scamper to the end zone.

Trey Barrow's 26-yarder on the final play of the half brought the Tigers within 28-17.

Following a scoreless third quarter, Missouri clawed within 28-24 with 10:50 left in the contest, when Franklin ran it in from the eight.

Texas A&M failed to move the ball on its next chance, but the Tigers responded with a six-play drive covering 79 yards and ending with Josey's 11-yard touchdown for a 31-28 Mizzou advantage.

But the home team came right back, bleeding more than three minutes off the clock and knotting the game on a 35-yarder by Randy Bullock with 4:10 left.

The Aggies appeared to be on their way to a deciding score inside the final minute of regulation, but Tannehill fumbled and Missouri's Dominique Hamilton recovered at his own 45 with 25 seconds left. Barrow's 46-yard field goal from the right hash mark stayed to the right at the end of regulation.

Missouri has won each of the last three meetings, but Texas A&M has taken seven of the 12 total matchups...Gray finished with 58 yards on 16 carries and six catches for 46 yards and the score...Texas A&M posted 500 total yards to 482 for Mizzou.
