Texas A&M edges Oklahoma State in OT on blocked PAT

Oct 22, 2006 - 2:45 AM STILLWATER, Oklahoma (Ticker) -- Texas A&M's Stephen McGee and Danny Gorrer ruined Oklahoma State's first home game in more than a month.

McGee forced overtime with a last-second touchdown pass and Gorrer blocked Jason Ricks' extra point in the extra session as No. 23 Texas A&M edged the Cowboys, 34-33, in a dramatic Big 12 Conference contest.

The game was tied, 20-20, when Oklahoma State - playing its first home game since September 16 - started a drive at its 9-yard line with 5:34 left in the fourth quarter. Six plays later, Dantrell Savage scampered 60 yards down the left sideline to give the Cowboys the lead with 3:24 to go.

But the Cowboys could not stop McGee. On 4th-and-13 at the Texas A&M 32, he threw a 17-yard pass to Jorvorskie Lane out of the backfield.

"We had our chance to win the game when we had them in the 4th-and-long," Cowboys coach Mike Gundy said. "We could have finished it off right there. We have to find a way to get that accomplished."

McGee found Chad Schroeder for a 19-yard pickup to the Oklahoma State 29 on 3rd-and-7 and two plays later connected with Schroeder for a 10-yard pass to the 5. McGee was roughed on the play, giving the Aggies 1st-and-goal from the 2.

After an incomplete pass, McGee hit tight end Joey Thomas in the end zone for a tying score with three seconds left.

Lane gave the Aggies (7-1, 3-1 Big 12 South) the lead with a one-yard TD run to begin overtime. Zac Robinson countered with a 15-yard scoring pass to Adarius Bowman, but Gorrer blocked Ricks' PAT, ending the contest.

The Cowboys also botched a PAT in the first quarter.

"On the first one we fumbled the snap. I couldn't tell if the snap was high or we just fumbled it," Gundy said. "The last one looked like a low kick to me. I'm not sure. I will have to look at the film. There is no excuse for those mistakes. As the head coach, I will take responsibility for that and we will do what we need to do to get those things fixed."

Savage finished with 134 yards on 13 carries for the Cowboys (4-3, 1-2 South), who have lost nine of the 11 meetings with the Aggies since the formation of the Big 12, including the last three.

McGee completed 17-of-26 passes for 192 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran 17 times for 86 yards.

A redshirt freshman, Robinson went 7-of-16 for 94 yards and three TDs after replacing the injured Bobby Reid in the second quarter.

"I didn't know if he would be down for just one play, or if he was really hurt," Robinson said. "But I was ready to go."

"I thought Zac Robinson did a nice job coming in for the first time, especially on a cold night when he was sitting on the sidelines with his hands in hand warmers," Gundy said. "He came in and played with a lot of enthusiasm. He ran the ball well when he had the ball in his hands. He was a leader out there. He handled himself very well. He converted a few 3rd-and-longs. I thought he did well."
