Kentucky looks to keep dream season alive at South Carolina

Oct 4, 2007 - 10:48 AM No. 8 Kentucky (5-0) at No. 11 South Carolina (4-1) 7:30 pm EDT

COLUMBIA, South Carolina (Ticker) -- Andre' Woodson finally has thrown an interception. Everything else has gone perfectly for the Kentucky quarterback and his team this season.

Woodson and his eighth-ranked Wildcats visit No. 11 South Carolina on Thursday night in an intriguing Southeastern Conference clash.

The Wildcats (5-0, 1-0 SEC East) remained perfect this season with a 45-17 non-conference win over visiting Florida Atlantic last Saturday.

Woodson tossed his first interception in 325 attempts - an NCAA record - but threw for 301 yards and a career-high five touchdowns in the romp.

An emerging Heisman Trophy candidate, the senior has thrown 16 TDs with just the one pick this season for the Wildcats, the only undefeated team in the rugged SEC East.

South Carolina (4-1, 2-1 East), which is in a three-way tie for second place in the division, is coming off a 38-21 win over Mississippi State here.

New starting quarterback Chris Smelley passed for 279 yards, two TDs and an interception for the Gamecocks, who scored the game's final 21 points.

Smelley was starting in place of fifth-year senior Blake Mitchell, who struggled in the previous week's 28-16 loss at No. 2 Louisiana State.

South Carolina has won seven in a row over Kentucky, including a 24-17 triumph in Lexington last year.
