Rutgers looks for second straight upset win vs. West Virginia

Oct 27, 2007 - 11:32 AM No. 6 West Virginia (6-1) at No. 25 Rutgers (5-2) 12:00 pm EDT

PISCATAWAY, New Jersey (Ticker) -- Rutgers coach Greg Schiano would love for his fans to storm the field for a second straight week.

Schiano's 25th-ranked Scarlet Knights look to post another upset when they host No. 6 West Virginia in a Big East Conference clash Saturday.

Last Thursday, Rutgers (5-2, 2-1 Big East) defeated then-No. 2 South Florida, 30-27, to stay in the running for the conference's BCS bowl bid. The Bulls were the highest-ranked opponent ever beaten by Rutgers.

Mike Teel threw two touchdowns without an interception and Ray Rice ran for 181 yards for the Scarlet Knights, who did not seal the win until Zaire Kitchen intercepted Matt Grothe with 49 seconds left.

West Virginia (6-1, 1-1) cruised past Mississippi State, 38-13, in non-conference action in Morgantown last week.

Pat White accounted for three touchdowns - two through the air - and Steve Slaton rushed for 127 yards and a score for the Mountaineers, who lost at South Florida on September 28, 21-13.

Last year, Rutgers lost a heartbreaker at West Virginia, 41-39, in triple overtime. Had the Scarlet Knights won, they would have won the Big East, but Louisville instead claimed the crown.
