Goodson's late TD helps Texas A&M put away Baylor

Oct 29, 2006 - 1:24 AM WACO, Texas (Ticker) -- Mike Goodson ended Texas A&M's streak of single-digit victories. The Aggies happily will take it.

Goodson iced the game with a 64-yard touchdown scamper with 2:15 remaining as the 22nd-ranked Aggies posted a 31-21 Big 12 Conference victory over Baylor.

Texas A&M (8-1, 4-1 Big 12 South) had won its previous three games by six points or fewer, including a 34-33 overtime triumph at Oklahoma State last week.

Baylor trailed at the half, 21-14, before Paul Mosley scored on a one-yard run with 10:19 left in the third quarter.

Texas A&M tried to take a three-point lead on the first play of the fourth quarter, but Terrance Parks blocked Layne Neumann's 22-yard field goal.

But Baylor went three-and-out and Stephen McGee marched the Aggies down the field, though they had to settle for a 22-yard field goal by Neumann with 6:22 to play after having 1st-and-goal from the 3.

The Bears (4-5, 3-2 North) stalled near midfield on their next drive, and Goodson capped the scoring soon thereafter.

Goodson ran for 96 yards on just eight carries for the Aggies, who outrushed the Bears, 292-77, and held a 507-337 advantage overall.

McGee completed 12-of-21 passes for 215 yards and two touchdowns and rushed 17 times for 89 yards. His favorite target was tight end Martellus Bennett, who had five catches for 133 yards and two TDs.

Shawn Bell went 14-of-20 for 250 yards and a TD for Baylor. Dominique Zeigler had five catches for 180 yards, including a 79-yard TD grab in the first quarter.

McGee opened the scoring with a three-yard pass to Bennett with 8:13 to go in the first quarter, but Neumann failed to convert his extra-point attempt. Two plays later, Baylor took a 7-6 lead on Bell's long pass to Zeigler.

Jorvorskie Lane scored on a two-yard run and McGee found Joey Thomas for a two-point conversion and a 14-7 lead with 12:32 to go in the second quarter. After Baylor tied it on Brandon Whitaker's three-yard run, McGee gave the Aggies a 21-14 lead at the break with a 75-yard TD strike to Bennett.
