Bills aiming for series sweep against Jets
Oct 28, 2007 - 10:55 AM Buffalo (2-4) at NY Jets (1-6) Sunday 4:05 pm EDTEAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey (Ticker) -- The Buffalo Bills look to finish what they started.
The Bills travel to the Meadowlands on Sunday for an AFC East matchup with the skidding New York Jets.
On September 30, Buffalo eked out a 17-14 win over the Jets, which started a four-game spiral by New York.
That contest snapped a season-opening three-game losing streak by the Bills and marked the debut of rookie quarterback Trent Edwards, who made his first start in place of an injured J.P. Losman.
Edwards went 22-of-28 for 234 yards with one touchdown and one interception in the first meeting, and his play has invigorated the Bills, who are coming off a 19-14 victory over the Baltimore Ravens.
Losman is healthy now but coach Dick Jauron on Tuesday announced he is sticking with Edwards, a third-round pick out of Stanford who is 2-1 in his three starts - with the lone loss a crushing last-second defeat to the Dallas Cowboys.
The Bills also got a solid performance from rookie running back Marshawn Lynch, who rushed for 84 yards and a touchdown.
In the first meeting between the teams, Lynch rushed for 79 yards and a touchdown on 23 carries.
Coach Eric Mangini promised to shake up his team following Sunday's loss to the Cincinnati Bengals in which the Jets blew a 23-10 second-half lead.
Mangini said every position will be re-evaluated, including that of quarterback Chad Pennington. New York's only victory this season is over the winless Miami Dolphins.
"I'm going to look at everything," Mangini said. "I'm going to look at everything and really evaluate it across the board and see where we can gain some more consistency. It applies to all the areas."
Pennington had one of his better games, completing 20-of-31 passes for three touchdowns, but he threw a killer interception that was returned for a touchdown with 37 seconds to play, capping a run of 28 unanswered points by the Bengals.
Laveranues Coles was one of the few bright spots for New York, hauling in eight catches for 133 yards and two touchdowns.
The teams split their two meetings last season, with each winning on the road.
