Broncos brace for visit from Titans
Nov 19, 2007 - 11:23 AM Tennessee (6-3) at Denver (4-5) Monday 8:30 pm ESTDENVER (Ticker) -- Coming off a season-saving victory, the Denver Broncos get a welcome respite in their schedule.
In the midst of a stretch in which they play six of eight games on the road, the Broncos host the Tennessee Titans on Monday night.
Denver stopped a major slide by rallying from a two-point halftime deficit for a 27-11 road victory over the Kansas City Chiefs last weekend.
The Broncos had lost two straight and five of six prior to the victory, and with a grueling second-half schedule awaiting them, the comeback kept their postseason hopes afloat.
A much-maligned defense which was the league's worst against the run, Denver limited Kansas City to 67 rushing yards. Of course, the Broncos were helped by the fact that All-Pro running back Larry Johnson missed the game with a sprained foot.
Denver's run defense gets another test against the Titans, who rank fourth in the NFL with 139.8 rushing yards a contest.
Tennessee had a three-game winning streak snapped in last week's 28-13 home loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.
One of the key factors in the loss was the Titans' inability to get their vaunted running game untracked. LenDale White was limited to 12 yards on eight carries, ending a string of three straight 100-yard efforts.
Quarterback Vince Young led Tennessee with 52 yards rushing but continued to struggle in the passing game. He finished 24-of-41 for a career-high 257 yards, but he threw two interceptions, giving him 10 for the season as opposed to just four TD passes.
The Broncos got a boost from quarterback Jay Cutler, who was thought to have suffered a possible season-ending knee injury the previous week in a 44-7 loss to the Detroit Lions.
It turned out to be just a bruise for Cutler, who threw for 192 yards and a touchdown.
Backup running back Selvin Young also provided a spark, rushing for 109 yards and a touchdown in place of the injured Travis Henry.
Henry starred for the Titans last season, rushing for 1,211 yards and seven TDs before signing with Denver in the offseason.
