Pens extend win streak to five, beat Sens

Nov 26, 2010 - 10:51 PM Pittsburgh, PA (Sports Network) - Alex Goligoski scored the game-winner early in the third period to help the Pittsburgh Penguins take a 2-1 win over the Ottawa Senators at CONSOL Energy Center.

Evgeni Malkin had the other goal while Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 43 shots for the Penguins, who have won a season-high five straight games. Tyler Kennedy added two assists in the win.

"They came hard at us all night," said Fleury. "They were throwing pucks at us from all angles and we just had to get through it. We worked hard to come back and it paid off for us."

Sidney Crosby had an assist to extend his point streak to 11 games. He has nine goals and 13 assists during the run.

Jesse Winchester scored the lone goal for the Senators, who have dropped five of their last six. Pascal Leclaire was charged with both goals on 40 shots.

"It's always a challenge playing these guys cause they throw so many shots at the net," said Leclaire. "I felt good out there today, but we couldn't get the win."

With the score tied early in the third, Chris Kelly was whistled for a holding and hooking call during the same sequence to give Pittsburgh a four-minute power play.

During the advantage, Goligoski received the puck at the left point, skated to the left circle and fired a wrister past Leclaire for a 2-1 lead at the 5:05 mark.

Fleury turned aside 12 shots in the third and withstood a late Senators barrage with their goaltender pulled to hang on for the win.

The Senators scored at the 12:11 mark of the first period. Jarkko Ruutu had the puck at the left point and blasted a shot on net that Fleury stopped. The rebound, though, sat out front and Winchester buried it for his third goal of the season.

Leclaire stopped 14 shots in the first period and stopped 19 in the second period, but the Penguins were able to get one by him on the power play.

Near the end of a Erik Karlsson interference call, Malkin buried the disc from the right circle during a commotion in front for his eight goal of the season.

Fleury, who made 20 saves in the first, stopped 11 shots in the second period and helped kill two Ottawa power plays to keep the game tied heading to the final period.

Game Notes

Pittsburgh hosts Calgary on Saturday. The team is 6-5-1 at home this season...Ottawa, which fell to 4-7-1 on the road, hosts Toronto on Saturday...Fleury improved to 6-7-1 in 16 career starts against the Senators...Pittsburgh took a 5-2 win over Ottawa in the Steel City on October 18.
