Ennis helps lead Sabres over Ducks in Buffalo
Dec 22, 2010 - 7:22 AM Buffalo, NY (Sports Network) - Tyler Ennis scored two goals, Ryan Miller made 21 saves and the Buffalo Sabres beat the Anaheim Ducks, 5-2, at HSBC Arena.Drew Stafford, Nathan Gerbe and Craig Rivet also tallied for the Sabres, who have won five of their last six at home.
"I think we took advantage of a team whose energy level was low," said Buffalo head coach Lindy Ruff. "(Anaheim) played a heckuva game last night in Boston and they had to come in here in a tough situation."
Corey Perry netted a pair of power-play goals in the third period for Anaheim, which fell to 2-3-0 on its season-high, seven-game road trip. Curtis McElhinney was beaten five times on 42 shots in defeat.
The Sabres lit the lamp three times in the opening period, with power-play goals by Stafford and Ennis bracketing Gerbe's first goal of the season.
Stafford slipped a backhander through the pads of McElhinney to put Buffalo on the board at 4:43. After Gerbe made it 2-0 midway through the frame, Anaheim forward Jason Blake received a five-minute boarding major and a game misconduct. Ennis then potted the rebound of Andrej Sekera's shot on the extended man advantage at 16:57.
The rookie left winger found the back of the net again at the 4:40 mark of the middle stanza.
Perry spoiled Miller's shutout bid at 15:36 of the third period.. Rivet beat McElhinney less than two minutes later before Perry struck again in the waning moments.
"It's always tough going back-to-back into a break. We've been on the road for a long time," Ducks center Ryan Getzlaf said. "Those are all excuses. That doesn't justify anything that we've done on the ice."
Game Notes
Derek Roy and Jordan Leopold both collected two assists for Buffalo...The Sabres had lost four straight to the Ducks...Anaheim forward Saku Koivu appeared in his 900th career game, while Ducks defenseman Andy Sutton played in the 600th of his career.
