Zetterberg nets winner in OT to lift Wings past Vancouver

Dec 23, 2010 - 8:08 AM Detroit, MI (Sports Network) - Henrik Zetterberg scored his second goal of the game with 2:01 left in overtime to send Detroit past Vancouver, 5-4, at Joe Louis Arena.

After a Vancouver defenseman deflected away a Red Wings chance from the slot, Zetterberg wound up and blasted a rolling puck from the left circle through Roberto Luongo for the game-winner.

Danny Cleary added a goal and assist for the Red Wings, who had dropped three of four coming in.

Detroit forward Pavel Datsyuk suffered a broken right hand during the first period and is expected to miss at least four weeks.

Valtteri Filppula and Nicklas Lidstrom also tallied to back a 35-save performance from Jimmy Howard.

Daniel and Henrik Sedin both posted a goal and a helper for the Canucks, whose four-game win streak was snapped but who still collected a point in their seventh straight contest (5-0-2).

Mikael Samuelsson and Jeff Tambellini also scored and Luongo took the loss despite 40 stops.

Brian Rafalski sprung a 2-on-1 by Cleary and Todd Bertuzzi, and Cleary shot over Luongo's glove to open the scoring at the 8:12 mark of the first period.

Vancouver evened the game on a power play at 1:11 of the second, when Ryan Kesler's aborted shot from the top of the crease slid over to Henrik for an easy tap-in.

Detroit went up 2-1 when Filppula followed up Cleary's rebound in front at 6:29, but Daniel's dig at a loose puck in the crease was successful at 11:21 for another Canucks power-play goal.

Samuelsson then repaid his former club off a dish from Henrik at 19:39 and the Canucks led by one after 40 minutes.

Zetterberg managed to sneak a backhander by Luongo from along the goal line to make it 3-3 at 1:54 of the third, but Tambellini fired inside the right post and over Howard's glove off a pass from Kesler, giving Vancouver a 4-3 lead at 12:10.

Lidstrom's power-play marker with 3:54 left in the third sent the game into overtime.
