Blues take down Blackhawks

Dec 29, 2010 - 7:59 AM St. Louis, MO (Sports Network) - Brad Boyes scored the go-ahead goal early in the third period, as the St. Louis Blues earned a 3-1 win over the Chicago Blackhawks at Scottrade Center.

Vladimir Sobotka and Brad Winchester also tallied for the Blues, who have won four straight. Matt D'Agostini picked up a pair of assists, while Ty Conklin turned aside 25-of-26 shots.

"Ty made the saves when he needed to and I thought everything was timely," Boyes said.

Jake Dowell accounted for the lone goal for Chicago, which had a four-game winning streak halted. Marty Turco took the loss between the pipes despite making 40 saves.

Tied at 1-1 after two periods, D'Agostini got the puck back to the middle point to Erik Johnson, who ripped a slap shot that hit Boyes in front and got past Turco on the blocker side 3:08 into the third.

Winchester swatted home a rebound off a Barret Jackman shot from in close at 14:10. The goal was reviewed, but upheld after it was determined the puck crossed the goal line and the Blues were up 3-1.

Despite pulling Turco in favor of the extra attacker, Chicago was unable to cut into the two-goal deficit.

"Maybe you get Kane and Hossa back, you think it's going to be easy again," Chicago head coach Joel Quenneville said. "What made us effective is we played hard and simple and played for each other. We've got to get rid of the cutesy stuff."

Dowell's wrister from the left circle squeezed under the arm of Conklin with 1:47 left in the opening stanza to give the Blackhawks the lead.

The Blues pulled even 4:39 into the second. After a failed clearing attempt by a Chicago defender, Sobotka fired a one-timer past Turco from the left point and it remained a 1-1 game after two periods.

Game Notes

Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane returned to the lineup after missing eight games with a left ankle injury suffered on December 5 and finished a minus-2...St. Louis went 0-for-4 on the power play, while Chicago was 0- for-2 with the man advantage...Despite the loss, the Blackhawks have still won seven of the last 11 against the Blues.
