Marleau lifts Sharks over Predators in OT

Feb 16, 2011 - 7:30 AM Nashville, TN (Sports Network) - Patrick Marleau scored with 1:07 left in overtime to lift the San Jose Sharks to a 2-1 win over the Nashville Predators at Bridgestone Arena.

In the extra session, a turnover in the neutral zone resulted in Marleau getting the puck and skating into the Nashville zone by himself. From down low, he buried it past Pekka Rinne for the win.

"We didn't manage the puck in traffic at their blue line," Nashville head coach Barry Trotz said. "There was a lot of room. Marleau came off of the bench and we had 'D' up on the play, probably a little too tight. But it starts with the guy managing the puck at the blue line."

Devin Setoguchi scored in the second period, while Antti Niemi stopped 30 shots for the Sharks, who had dropped their previous two.

Cody Franson scored on the power play in the first period for the Predators, who had won three of four coming in. Rinne made 48 stops in defeat.

Franson's soft wrister from the right circle fooled Niemi and got Nashville on the board at the 6:48 mark of the first period.

San Jose tied the game 9:13 into the second, when Setoguchi went wide with the puck down the right wing and used a high shot to beat Rinne.

Rinne stopped 17 shots in the third period, while Niemi made seven saves to force overtime.

"Rinne stopped a lot of rubber," Marleau said. "We wanted to throw a lot of rubber at him and he stood in there tall. He is definitely one of the top goalies in the league."
