'Canes try to regroup in Montreal

Nov 13, 2010 - 4:05 PM (Sports Network) - While the Montreal Canadiens aim for a fourth victory in five games this evening, the Carolina Hurricanes will be trying to recover from a seven-goal setback last time out in tonight's meeting at the Bell Centre.

The Canadiens being a four-game homestand two days after knocking off the Bruins, 3-1, in Boston for their seventh victory in 10 games. Brian Gionta and Scott Gomez scored third-period goals and defenseman P.K. Subban notched the first regular-season tally of his career.

Carey Price added 34 saves in the victory and believes his team is starting to hit its stride.

"The game we played on Thursday was exactly the same kind of game we played in the playoffs last year," Price told Montreal's website on Friday. "We played really tight defensively and they didn't have a lot of chances. They got some shots, but they weren't generating great offensive opportunities."

Mike Cammalleri added two assists for Montreal, which is 4-3-1 at home this year.

The Hurricanes hope to rebound tonight after getting shelled, 8-1, at home by the Flyers on Thursday. Carolina had beat Edmonton, 7-1, on Tuesday to give it 21 goals while winning three of four prior to Thursday's loss.

Chad LaRose had the 'Canes only goal and Cam Ward was pulled in the second period after allowing four goals on 13 shots. Justin Peters made nine saves in relief.

"Sometimes when things are going well and things are coming easy you start thinking it's easy," said Ward. "I think we forgot how hard it is to win and Philadelphia outworked us tonight."

The Hurricanes and Habs split four meetings last year, but Carolina has won five of seven and six of the last nine matchups overall. The 'Canes have claimed victory in eight of their last 10 at the Bell Centre and posted a 5-2 win when the clubs last met in Carolina on April 8.

Forward Eric Staal, who has three goals and five assists over his last five games, factored into all five goals for Carolina with a hat trick and two assists. He has seven goals and 11 points over his last five games versus the Canadiens and 15 goals and 27 points in 23 career games against them.

Ward is 11-3-2 with a 2.47 goals-against average in his career versus Montreal, while Price is 2-3-1 with a 2.57 GAA against Carolina.
