Price gets another shutout as Habs top Leafs
Nov 21, 2010 - 3:48 AM Montreal, QC (Sports Network) - Carey Price turned away 30 shots to record his fourth shutout of the season in Montreal's 2-0 win over Toronto at the Bell Centre."I did try to make myself big and I guess I was in the right spot at the right time for all the shots," Price said.
Jeff Halpern netted a shorthanded goal and Michael Cammalleri lit the lamp on a power play for the Canadiens, who had their four-game winning streak snapped Thursday with a 3-0 loss to Nashville.
Jonas Gustavsson made 36 saves for the Maple Leafs, who were aiming for their third straight victory. They had lost eight in a row prior to posting consecutive home wins over the Predators and New Jersey.
Before the game, the Canadiens paid tribute to Pat Burns, who lost his battle with cancer Friday. Burns led the Habs to the Stanley Cup Finals in his first season as an NHL head coach in 1989. He also coached the Maple Leafs during his career.
The Canadiens got on the board in the middle session. With Maxim Lapierre serving an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty, Halpern won an offensive zone faceoff, and Tom Pyatt quickly dished to Jaroslav Spacek at the right point. Halpern drifted towards the net and redirected Spacek's soft wrister behind Gustavsson at 9:17.
A gaffe by Toronto defenseman Mike Komisarek resulted in a 2-0 lead for the Canadiens. Komisarek threw the puck into the slot and right to Cammalleri, who beat the Maple Leafs goaltender at 7:55 of the third period.
"It's the right play. I just have to execute better," Komisarek said.
